Administrative Message
Dear Parents and Stakeholders,
Let’s celebrate!
First, we owe much thanks to our amazing students and our very supportive Draper Park community including our parents, School Community Council, wonderful PTSA board, Draper City, and other key stakeholders including our lawmakers, and also our Canyons School District administration. We acknowledge that our high level of academic success is largely due to the strong community we serve.
Secondly, if you’ve spent any time in collaborative meetings with our faculty, you’ll know that our teachers are amongst the most caring and dedicated educational professionals in the State of Utah. We are very fortunate to have such committed teachers working at Draper Park Middle School.
Thirdly, we have demonstrated over time that Draper Park Middle School teachers are on the cutting edge of educational excellence in terms of implementing research-based best practices and pedagogical innovation. Our teachers are effectively using technology in the classroom, using skill-based and project-based instruction, and implementing both interdisciplinary and content-level teaming to evaluate student achievement data to inform instruction.
Teachers are also using instructional strategies to improve student engagement, increase concept mastery, develop communication skills, and also expand depth of knowledge to prepare our students for the academic rigor expected in high school, college, and ultimately in the global work force.
All this being said about our extraordinary faculty, our administrative team is committed to continuing the culture of excellence at DPMS and hiring and training a new class of equally impressive teachers for the 2016-2017 school year. This is of utmost importance and an area of focus over the next several weeks.
Lastly, when you consider DPMS student achievement data on the year-end Utah SAGE assessment, we should give our students much praise. Our students consistently rise to higher levels of academic rigor and expectation and work very hard at mastering concepts and increasing their level of understanding of important content. As measured against other schools statewide, Draper Park is consistently in the top ten in all three core subject areas: science, math, and ELA. So yes, we have much to celebrate! Even still, we have much to accomplish.
As we move into the third term of the 2015-2016 school year, with your continued support, we look forward to continuing and improving the tradition of excellence at DPMS.
Sincerely,
DPMS Administration
