DPMS Cereal Drive
The student council at Draper Park Middle School held a cereal drive from December 2 – December 14, inviting students to donate boxes of cereal or cash to share with students at local Title I elementary schools. The community supplied an overwhelming response by donating 1,847 boxes of cereal and an additional $3,820.12. The cash donations were used to purchase additional boxes of cereal to be donated. To spice up the drive, teams competed against each other to see who could donate the most. Student on team Freyr, the winning team, received a chicken biscuit sandwich, donated by the Draper Chic-fil-A. After all the donations had been collected, Draper Park Middle School student council took a field trip to help pass out the cereal at the elementary schools. Overall, four different elementary schools received over 700 boxes of cereal each, enough for each student to have at least one box to enjoy over the holiday break. One teacher at a receiving elementary school expressed, “My class was so excited today to receive their own ‘personal’ box of cereal; they wrote their names on their boxes and some even wrote, ‘Hands off!’" Draper Park Middle School would like to thank the students, parents, and community members who helped make this such a successful and special experience.
