Draper Park Middle has a large enrollment of more than 1,500 students. Because of this, and what we know about the adolescent brain, we have split this large number into nine small teams of approximately 170 students each. These small groups share the same four core teachers and hallway.
During adolescence, some very important things are happening in your student’s brain. Among these are the development of executive functioning (important for organizational skills), as well as the development of social skills.
Teaming allows for relationships to form in a small, safe, controlled environment, where it is less overwhelming for students. Because teachers know their students well, and are able to collaborate with other teachers and adults, we are better able to help them navigate adolescence, and meet their individual needs.
