National Junior Honor Society Reminders
Draper Park Middle School is excited to start a chapter of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The application is online and instructions and can be on the school website. Applications are due Oct. 25 to Samantha Burton.
Qualifications
Students who achieve a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher are invited to apply for this program. Scholarship is just one component needed to qualify. In order to be considered for NJHS, each student must complete an application. This consists of (1) listing leadership, community service, extra-curricular activities, and awards/recognitions you have been involved in, (2) writing an essay that explains how you exemplify these qualities, and (3) signing an agreement contract to complete ten hours of community service, attend meetings, and represent DPMS with positivity.
Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship in secondary school students. Membership this year is being offered to seventh- and eighth-grade students at DPMS. This program is a great stepping stone for success. It looks incredible on scholarship applications, job applications, and college application. Membership in a local chapter of NJHS is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is made by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship. Once selected by the faculty council, NJHS members are responsible for continuing to demonstrate these positive qualities.
If your student is selected, he or she will receive an acceptance letter by Nov. 7, that will include their information about how they will be honored at a special induction ceremony
