Advanced Orchestra Invited to Perform at State Festival
The DPMS Advanced Orchestra has been invited to perform at the prestigious Utah Junior High State Orchestra Festival in March. The orchestra auditioned and was selected among 11 other junior high orchestras to play at the “Sweepstakes” day of the festival. Our students will perform for out-of-state judges who will rate the them on how well they play and provide them with comments on what they did well and how they can improve.
The Advanced Orchestra will also be given scores on how well it can play a piece it has never seen before. Our musicians will also have the honor of participating in a 30-minute clinic with a professional orchestral musician.
Although this is not a competition, each orchestra will receive a rating. "This is a great honor for our Advanced Orchestra students," said Marcus Voght, director of Instrumental Music at DPMS.
The festival is hosted by the University of Utah on March 20-21. Good luck Vikings!
